1851 (3 July) neat envelope to Surrey bearing Bytown despatch c.d.s. and straight-line "money letter", black handstruck "3" overstamped by concentric circles and re-rated "1/2"; U.K manuscript markings with "1/8" rate mark (postage 1/2d. plus registration 6d.) and "26" registration number, the reverse with London transit (21.7) and a very fine strike of open-circle "godalmin" (21.7) c.d.s. in blue. The flap is sealed with an embossed seal which reads "registered/july 31 1848". Clean and fresh. A rare early Money Letter with U.K. inward registration

Carried from Halifax on the Cunard 'Europa'. Believed to be the only example of a Money Letter with the extra 6d. registration fee
