1840 (28 July) official wrapper to Rothchilds in London marked "KDS" (on State business, so free of Danish postage) bearing a very fine strike of London Foreign Office wide crown "registered" in black (W&J 1131) along with the rate calculations "3.4 / 2.6 5/10"; the reverse with double-ring "k.p.b./a." despatch c.d.s. and London arrival (31.7) plus manuscript "b. Recommandirt". There are two light fining creases and part of the flap has been lost on opening, a fresh and attractive cover

With the discontinuation of the Inland Money Orders on 1st january 1840, there was no secure way of sending inland letters and for a year registration was only available for registered letters received from, or sent to, overseas via the London Foreign Branch

The postage rate is double 1/8d. plus 2/6d. for registration
