1857 (4 Nov.) envelope registered to Baden bearing 1855-57 1/- green pair tied by "890" numerals of Windsor, the envelope has been marked "Registered" in orange crayon, bears London tall type crowned "registered" in red, "PD" in oval, second type open oval "registered/g.p.o" struck in black, manuscript "14gr" and French "chargé" in black plus Calais transit (5.11); the reverse with Windsor despatch in blue, London transit, Paris to Strasbourg and two boxed German datestamps including part Carlsbad arrival, there are four marks where the French wax seal have been removed. There is some trivial soiling but an attractive 2/- franked cover

Pays double rate 6d. postage up to ½oz. and twice 6d. registration per ¼oz. After 1 January 1855 the registration on letter prepaid to or through France became the same as the postage rate.

It is thought that this cover is connected to Windsor Castle and there is a past family link between the House of Windsor and the Weber family
