Norwich: 1861 (10 Aug.) envelope to Pontefract bearing 1855-57 6d. lilac tied by "573" numeral and surrounded by the evocative framed "registered/at norwich" with manuscript date insertion with 1d. Stars on white paper tied by Norwich duplex (11.8), marked "Registered" in magenta ink and with the standard London registered dated oval code "BB" (12.8), the reverse with part Pontefract arrival c.d.s. Horizontal crease and flap missing, a little soiled.


The magnificent strike of this rare and important registration marking makes this a key cover to a variety of collections; only one other cover has been recorded
