1841 (8 June) 2d. envelope, a195, to Lancaster, uprated with 1840 2d. blue, plate 1, QA (good to very large margins all round) cancelled (not tied) by black Maltese Cross with a second strike to the right, marked "Registered Letter 1/-" in red in and with Carlisle despatch c.d.s. in the lower corner; the reverse with red wax seal of the Carlisle and Cumberland Bank. There is some light ageing but a remarkable and highly important cover amongst other matters being the only known uprated registered Mulready cover. B.P.A. Certificate (2915)


Also 1841 (13 June), 2d. light blue envelope, a198, from the same correspondence, twice marked "Registered", one with number "146" and "1/-" with a light strike of Carlisle despatch c.d.s. in the corner, the bank wax seal is on the reverse. Clean and fine. These are believed to be the only two 2d. registered Mulready envelopes
