The Later Opium Trade
1912 (27 Apr.) large red band envelope with letter and printed message, sent from the China International Reform Association - Kwangtung Unit and addressed to the then ex-president Sun Yat Sen; the reverse bears C.I.P. ½c. (another adhesive missing) tied by Canton 34 rectangle with horizontal lines and name insertion and an indistinct Canton c.d.s. and the address side with redirection slip. The envelope with some soiling and tears on one side but the contents are in good order.

The letter seeks the sponsorship of President Sun for the establishment of CIRA Kwangtung Unit, which was formed to help the Chinese people quit the drug addiction. The CIRA was a Christian based organisation which was established in China in 1808. A very unusual and interesting letter
