French Postal Bureau
Shanghai (Central Bureau): 1860 (2 Oct.) envelope to Caen "voie de Suez & Marseilles" bearing imperf. Napoleon 40c. (good to large margins) tied by a superb strike of "CEBC CL" in lozenge with and equally fine "corps exp. china/bau central" despatch c.d.s., with boxed "PD" and five-pointed star in shades of red. The letter has been sent by Surgeon Major Roger of the military transport ship 'la Meurthe' and countersigned by his commanding officer; there is an array of French backstamps including Caen arrival (27.11). There are a couple of minor imperfections, a neat and delightful cover.
