At this time Lieut. Edwin Pollard was the captain of 'Woodcock" (until November 1858). At the time of arrival in Hong Kong, 'Woodcock' was exchanging fire with the Chinese forts at Nam-Tow, Canton. Marines and infantry then stormed the forts and the action was all over by nightfall
