Chusan Garrison: 1844 (25 Dec.) entire letter from "Chusan" to Bath, by "Overland Mail Via Bombay", rated "1/-", the flap with a good strike of the type 7 Hong Kong c.d.s. (10.1), London and Bath arrival c.d.s. (26.4); there is some light soiling but generally in fine condition.


The letter begins with a Christmas greeting and continues with, "... I suppose that I shall remain here now as long as I am in China, the Regt. is to be moved up here next March and the 18th to go to Hong Kong, the men of the 98th who are up here will therefore remain and I am to stay with them ... I shall be glad when the Regiment comes up, it is so very dull at the moment... ". An important letter which is thought to be the earliest known mail from Chusan Island


1844年12月25日從中國舟山寄英國Bath信函, 函上手註 "Over Mail via Bombay", 遞送費1s. 封舌上蓋10月1日香港7 型日戳. 4月26日倫敦及Both 到達日戳. 信中除聖𧩙祝福外, 主要提到第18兵團及第98兵團參加在中國的各戰役. 此函相信是從舟山群島寄出的存世最早國際郵件, 彌足珍貴.
