1938-52 King George VI Definitive Issue
Issued Stamps
5/- slate-blue and yellow-orange 1942 line perf. 14 emergency printing, wonderful fresh colour and mint with a single hinge mark at top. A very fine and most attractive example of this rare wartime printing, and one of the great rarities issued during the reign of George VI. S.G. 132a, £7,000. Photo

Note: The 1942 line perforated 14 5/- was a wartime printing that came about when the works of De La Rue & Co. were bombed one night, destroying the plant and all its machinery, except for the stamps in the strong room. These were sent to Watford for perforating and a few of the 5/- were perforated on an old line machine. Foster states that about a dozen mint examples are known. The perforation in this printing measures exactly 14 all round instead of the normal comb perforation which measures 13.8x 13.7
