Ship Letter Handstamps
1815 (June/July) entire letter (one side flap removed) "p Lincoln,. Capt. Benson Q.D.C." to Edinburgh showing, on reverse, manuscript "Ship Letter Jamaica" and light "falmouth/ja" alongside arrival datestamp (8.8), the face panel with rate marks, step-type "portsmouth/ship letter", Additional "½" handstamp and transit datestamps of London (8.8) and Edinburgh (11.8); no Kingston mark so it appears that this was the Falmouth Post Office, Jamaica's attempt at mimicking the current Kingston oval Ship Letter handstamp which does not appear to have been recorded on any other cover with a Falmouth Ja handstamp. A very rare manuscript Ship Letter marking with only one other example recorded. An important showpiece exhibition cover
