1842 (20 Sept.) entire to Keith in Scotland bearing 1841 2d. blue in deep shade tied by very crisp Maltese Cross in black, the folded entire being a large print of a satirical illustration (approx. 50x33cm when unfolded) titled 'Royal Progress Scene 1st Early Rising Edinburgh Barrier Gate. 9 o'clock A.M. 1st Sept. 1842' depicting Queen Victoria and Prince Albert arriving in Edinburgh amongst much confusion. The entire with some foxing that has been reduced and the usual peripheral paper faults, nevertheless a scarce and highly unusual item. Photo

Note: On the 1st of September, 1842 Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were due to make only the second Royal appearance in Scotland since the reign of Charles II. Much excitement surrounded the visit and careful preparations were made. On the arrival of the Royal procession at 9am, some hours earlier than expected, no part of the ceremony was ready and so ensued the chaos depicted here.
