Mail to United Kingdom
1880 (Jan.) envelope (front and reverse separated) from Pretoria to "The Lord Sale and Sele" at Hereford, bearing 1878 6d. cancelled "1", in combination with Cape ½d. pairs (2) and 4d. with one ½d. pair and the 4d. cancelled "1" in oval of bars, the other ½d. pair apparently cancelled "1" at Pretoria contrary to regulations, Cape Town c.d.s. (12.1) on face, arrival c.d.s. (4.2) on reverse; the reverse with faults though an attractive and unusual combination franking carried on the Conway Castle. Photo
Note: This cover was posted at a time when other covers show that Transvaal offices had a surfeit of Cape ½d. stamps, which were used in multiples.
