1898 (21 Jan.) Mashonaland 1½d. card (soiled and creased) to Sydney, uprated with 1896-97 Large Arms 1d., both cancelled by "salisbury/mashonaland" c.d.s. The sender was W.G. Flannery of the British South Africa Police ay Salisbury and part of the message reads "I joined the Mashona Mounted Police in November 96...often under fire, wet nights in the veldt, stationed at lonely forts...was present and took part in the attack on the famous chief Mashingombi (a three days fight) which resulted in the death of that chief and the destruction of that stronghold." A descriptive item relating to the Mashona rebellion. Photo
