1847 (1 July) Officer's entire letter to London, headed "Blum Fontain", rated "8" and "1/-" showing oval "ship letter/Crown/cape of good hope" partly overstruck by unframed "packet-letter/devonport" h.s. with arrival datestamp (14.9) on reverse. The writer refers to Bushmen - who lived around the Kat River Settlement at a mission station, and remained neutral during the war between the Xhosa and Colonial forces. With transcript. Photo
