A group of covers or fronts with plate Ib, SD (good to large margins) tied by a heavy black Maltese Cross on 1841 (27 Feb.) wrapper from Wakefield to Halifax; plate II, HG (good to large margins) tied by a black Maltese Cross on 1841 (5 Oct.) envelope (flap missing) from Manchester to Devonport; plate III, HH (good to large margins) tied by a deep, bright red Maltese Cross on 1840 (19 July) piece from Norwich to Yarmouth, the flap bearing a good strike of handstruck “Too Late”; plate IV, AB (large margins) cancelled by indistinct cancellation and part Banbury 1840 (21 Sept.) c.d.s. on front to Wykshaw, KE (almost touching to very large margins) tied by a neat black Maltese Cross on 1841 (27 Feb.) local Edinburgh front; LG (touched to large margins) well tied by dark red Maltese Cross on 1840 (31 Oct.) front from Greenock; MA (large to very large margins) cancelled by a deep orange-red Maltese Cross on 1840 (10 Nov.) wrapper from London to Norfolk bearing a good strike of “T.P./Holloway” at left, filing fold just clear of the adhesive; SH (good to large margins) tied by a dull red Maltese Cross on 1841 (14 Feb.) front to Mansfield, the flap with Liverpool despatch c.d.s. and a superb strike of examiner‘s stat in black; TJ (almost touching to large margins) cancelled by a very light strike of black Maltese Cross on 1841 (27 Feb.) part wrapper from Edinburgh to Belfast; plate V, II (touching to very large margins) well tied by a heavy black Maltese Cross on front addressed to Lord John Russell in London and with a weak strike of “Wrenthan/Penny Post” alongside, vertical crease through the adhesive; plate VII, DD (touching to very large margins) well tied by an orange-red Maltese Cross on 1840 (4 Oct.) wrapper from Norwich to London and plate IX, RF (small to very large margins) tied by a black Maltese Cross on 1841 (28 July) letter from Wakefield to York. Typical mixed condition in places, a very useful selection. (12 covers or fronts)
