1864 (5 Apr.) small thin-lined mourning envelope from London, bearing wing-margin 6d. lilac neatly cancelled by "se/9" duplex and showing manuscript "1" accountancy mark at foot, carried on the Union steamer Norman which arrived at Cape Town on 14 May and then transferred to the Cambrian which sailed on 22 May and arrived on 31 May, confirmed by recipients notation on face, Devonport (5.4) on reverse. An early and unusual item of incoming mail sent during the first Union Co. contract
