Glasgow Ship Bank (Carrick, Brown and Company), 1 guinea, Glasgow, 2 January 1824, serial number 52/985, black and white, blue text in vertical format at left 'CITY OF GLASGOW BANK', sailing ship in circular frame top centre, ONE GUINEA in blue panel top left, pay to 'Nicol Brown' or bearer in text at centre, three manuscript signatures in low field
(PMS SH 10b), a Kirkwood and Son engraving. Also in the lot a receipt written in 1935 from Maggs Bros. for the sum of £12 and 10 shillings for a letter written by Sir Walter Scott in 1809 and the princely sum of £2 and 2 shillings (2 guineas) being the purchase price of the above mentioned guinea note of 1824. The note is split to centre with the left of top margin mounted on card, but the colour and text are fresh. No photograph of this type in 'Paper Money of Scotland'. A very rare note and an exciting discovery
