Clark [1898] 135; Carlyon-Britton [1900] 53; Murdoch I, 466; Schneider I, 686; North 1908; Spink 2435), a small collector's mark to right of reverse shield, otherwise a beautifully toned and round coin on a full weight flan, the legends abnormally crisp for this issue, about extremely fine, rare and with a most enviable provenance

By Proclamation of 24 January 1549, the King, to the intent that money be more plentiful and richly made, had caused certain new coins to be struck, namely the 20s., 10s. or Edward royall, 5s. and 2s. 6d. in gold, shillings and half-shillings.' Potter's study on the coinage for his 1962 BNJ Thesis noted 26 dies for 'Edward Royalls'.
