Gordon Benjamin Rudyerd Rudyerd-Helpman entered the Royal Navy as a Midshipman on 15 January 1909. Promoted Lieutenant on 30 April 1914, he served in this rank during the Great War. Retired Commander on 15 December 1934, he returned to the fold to command H.M.S. LST198 (Landing Ship Tanks) from September 1943-11 July 1944.
