Robert W. Vane served with the 7th Dragoon Guards during the Boer War. On the outbreak of the First World War he was still serving with the 7th Dragoon Guards with the rank of Sergeant. During the first year of the war he was promoted to Warrant Officer I Class, however he also transferred to the Army Veterinary Corps with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was also Mentioned in Dispatches by war's end (London Gazette 31 December 1915, refers); sold together with a copied research.
