Anglo-Saxon England, Continental Series (695-740), Sceat, Series E, variety C, crescent enclosing three pelleted bars and cross pommée, line of pellets above, rev. central annulet, cross pommée above, opposing offset crescents and chevron to sides, trefoil below bar and bird angled over crescent in margin, pellet each side, 0.99g, 270° (SL 96-20 plate coin; SCBI 69, 264 this coin; T&S pp. 222-42; JMP 96-7; Spink 790D), a beautifully crafted 'bird' motif in margin, dark tone, almost extremely fine
