Anglo-Saxon England, Secondary Series (710-760), Sceat, Series U, type 23d (imitative), frocked figure, looking left, wearing cynehelm, standing in celestial (?) crescent boat or lunette, holding long cross pommée in each hand, rev. long feather-necked but disjointed bird in foliage right, pecking at berries, wing curling behind, 1.01g, 180° (SL 45-20 plate coin; SCBI 69, 788 this coin; T&S pp. 552-67, 449-51; Gannon 66, 87, 89, 91, no. 86 and 88, 93, 117-19, 138, no. 217, 141, 185, Figs. 3.10a; 3.14, 3.18a, 4.13, 4.49a; MEC 8 Series Ub; North 83; Spink 816), a small striking split, otherwise a charming and well-centred example, toned, good very fine, scarce in this condition
