1898 (6 Nov.) envelope and letter from an officer on H.M.S. 'Undaunted' stationed at Wei-Hai-Wei to his father in Kent bearing Hong Kong 2c. carmine strip of five tied by Hong Kong (19.11) c.d.s. and, on the reverse, Cranbrook arrival (19.12).


The long letter gives some details of his ship's movements prior to arriving in Wei-Hai-Wei and practising their fore and aft rigging. He lists the ships there as H.M. Ships Centurian, Victorious, Undaunted, Narcissus, Sphyinca, Alacrity and Peacock and that the rest of the ships were still at Hong Kong or Manila
