1897 (26 Feb.) envelope to the China Inland Mission in Shanghai bearing two pairs of 1c. red tied by the double-circle c.d.s. in blue, there is a further strike on the reverse along with Shanghai Local Post c.d.s. (1.3) in black. The envelope with some wrinkling.


A very interesting and unusual cover used after the Local Post could no longer use steamships. The Inland Mission did not waste money on postage and it is possible that they were using their local post stamps to pay the 4c. Imperial Post Office rate, and obviously accepted by to post office. Scarce thus
