Internal Mail
1895 (1 Jan.) official envelope with the designation crossed through, registered to Baron Gunzburg in Shanghai bearing 2ca. and 3ca. cancelled by Ichang oblong datestamp with the yeardate corrected in manuscript from "94" to "95" and bearing a superb strike of the boxed registered handstamp numbered "1" and large "R" in double circle struck in red; the reverse with Hankow Local Post (6.1) and postman's pencil delivery notation; there is a vertical fold at side, otherwise clean and fine. A fantastic and highly desirable cover; very early use of the Ichang adhesives, the first cover sent by registered mail and believed to be the only cover bearing both of the registration handstamps
It seems as though this is the first date of use of the Ichang stamps; see also lots 1093, 1094
