1896 (28 Sept.) 2ca. card to Augustine Henry of the Imperial Maritime Customs, Mong-tse, Yunnan "via Haiphong" bearing the Chungking oblong datestamp in purple with a good strike of "laokay/tonkin" (10.11) c.d.s. below. A rare and extraordinary card. There was no direct route to Montze so this card was carried down river to Shanghai, thence by paquebot and rail to Haiphong and its destination. The message is written by Archibald Little. There is a vertical crease and some light tone spots. This is the only recorded item to Yunnan transiting through Vietnam
