The moneyer was the elder brother of M. Aemilius Lepidus, who formed the Second Triumvirate with M. Antonius and Octavian in 43 BC. The reverse commemorates the victory of L. Aemilius Paullus (Consul 182 BC and 168 BC) over King Perseus of Macedon.
