Great Britain: Manchester Ship Canal Company, £100 redeemable debenture, 1927, #5083, steamship at top, blue, pink underprint, printed by Bradbury, Wilkinson. Founded in 1882 by local industrialist Daniel Adamson, the canal opened in 1894, overseen by the renowned civil engineer Thomas Walker and having cost about £15m. The canal peaked in 1958 carrying nearly 20,000 tons of traffic, but declined gradually, and now faces a regeneration by a private company to continue its use. Near EF and one of very few issued examples known.
