Great Britain: Manchester Ship Canal Company, ordinary shares, 19[12], #67820, steamship top centre, black, blue underprint, by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co. Founded in 1882 by local industrialist Daniel Adamson, the canal opened in 1894, overseen by the renowned civil engineer Thomas Walker and having cost about £15m. The canal peaked in 1958 carrying nearly 20,000 tons of traffic, but declined gradually, and now faces a regeneration by a private company to continue its use. VF and scarce.
