Great Britain: Blaydon, Gateshead & Hepburn Rail Way Co., certificate for [5] shares, 183[5], #130, issued to John Lionel Hood, attractive vignette of steam train with coal wagons and ship at dockside, mine buildings in the distance, chain links at left, black, on vellum, lovely embossed seal attached to lower right. Incorporated in 1834 to build a 10½ mile line as an Eastern outlet for the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway. Only 13/4 miles was actually built before the line was taken over by the Newcastle & Carlisle in 1836. John Lionel Hood, a sheriff of Newcastle in 1825 and mayor in 1834. VF.
