Australia: Lake Bathurst Australasian Gold Mining Company, pair of certificates for 10 and 50 shares of £1, undated but circa 1852, black. Bathurst was the scene of the first gold rush in Australia. Several English companies invested heavily in the area but as usual with gold rushes fraud was prevalent. Lake Bathhurst was 140 miles away from Bathurst and no gold was found in the area, the name being used to cause deliberate confusion. A few ink marks but about very fine and scarce. (2)
