1870 Three Halfpence Plate Numbers
1860 Unissued Rosy Mauve
1½d. rosy mauve, SK-TL corner plate number block of four showing the margin inscription, part to large part original gum. The stamps are from the sheet which is centred a little high and the plate number has been partly obscured by the perforations. An extremely rare and desirable block and one of the great treasures of this elusive issue.

These stamps were prepared for an expected increase in postage rates and 10,000 sheets were printed. The change in postal rate did not gain parliamentary approval and the stocks were destroyed (8962 sheets). About 1000 sheets overprinted SPECIMEN had already been distributed, mainly to postmasters. A few preserved sheets have since been cut up accounting for the few examples escaping. All multiples are extremely rare and used examples virtually unknown
