The Post Town Straight Line Handstamps
Type T3 with "ja" below Town Name
1819 (6 July) entire letter from Darley Hall near Barnsley to Spanish Town and redirected to Kingston, rated 1/- inland postage plus 1/3d. Packet letter charge, the addressee charged 3/4d. Jamaica Currency to include inland postage, uprated to 3/9d. for the redirection and showing, on reverse across join, "spanish-town/ja/5 octbr.1819" datestamp unrecorded by Foster and with only a couple of other examples recorded since. A highly unusual and important handstamp thought to have been introduced by the local Postmaster and soon discarded. PS6 and three months earlier than recorded by Proud. Photo
