Note: John Smith Moffat, the son of Dr. Robert Moffat, the London Missionary Society's representative amongst the Bechuanas, was the brother-in-law of David Livingstone. In 1879 he resigned from missionary service and joined the Government. In 1888 he founded the Mafeking-Bulawayo Runner Post between Bechuanaland and Matabeleland
