Second Contract to and from Cape Town, 1863-68

The Extension to Natal, From Natal
1863 (Apr.) envelope to England carried on the Norman from Durban to Cape Town and the Cambrian first return passage under the second contract, bearing 3d. blue pair with small part cancellation and tied by Paid Devonport Cape Packet datestamp (28.5), one of the last letters from Natal posted at the old rate of 6d., by a Natal Proclamation, effective 1 April 1863, the packet rate was raised to 1/-, the notice was inadequate in relation to the monthly steamer's scheduled departure on 4 April and a number of letters were posted at the old rate of 6d., these letters not being fined on arrival in the U.K.; and 1863 (2 May) envelope from Pietermaritzburg to England when the rate was clearly established at 1/-, carried on the Norman from Durban to Cape Town and on the return passage of the Saxon under the second contract, bearing 6d. grey pair cancelled "1" and tied by London Paid datestamp (22.6), Paid Devonport Cape Packet datestamp at left.
