(x) Anguilla
1967 "Independent Anguilla" ½c. to $5 set of sixteen. unmounted mint; $1 with light gum bend and some values showing partial offset of the surcharge on the reverse, this is particularly strong on the 50c. A very rare and desirable set. S.G. 1-16, £25,000

Note: This lot is accompanied by two letters of provenance. The first from Urch, Harris gives the history of this set, being one of three purchased on the day of issue by the rector and the doctor. Shortly after this the postmaster was instructed not to sell any more mint stamps in order to protect the small stock from the ravages of philatelists. He was free to apply these stamps on mail posted at his office. The second letter is from the then owner to Harmers of London, prior to their sale by auction
