Prisoners of War and Civilian Internees in Singapore
Mail to Prisoners of War in Singapore
From Other Countries
Undated envelope from Argentina to Lt. Moffat, showing violet Red Cross Society of Japan cachet (on reverse), manuscript “HP ex Outram Rd” and “Cha” (Changi) plus “Received 10/5/44”. A most unusual cover of origin. Photo

Note: Lt. Moffat was transported to the Thailand-Burma Railway. He escaped with nine others but was captured, returned to Singapore and was sentenced to 8 years penal servitude. Serving his sentence in Outram Road Prison, he became so ill from starvation and mistreatment, he was transferred to the hospital within Changi, where he received this cover. No mail was ever sent to inmates of Outram Road.
