Note: The auction of the Steinway collection in 1939 of a faulty imperforate pair provided the first evidence of the existence of this error. In 2002, two additional examples were uncovered with the auction of the Colonel Evans collection which led to its listing in the Stanley Gibbons catalogue in 2003. Only three examples are recorded.
