Empress Josephine
1804-12, a roughly paper bound journal stamped with the cachet of the Horse Post being the Inspector of the Posts register for the Mons Staging Post giving details of "Postillons" (post boys) complaints. On page 2, dated 18014 (21 Aug.) M. Delacour, Inspector of the Posts gives a warning that Empress Josephine will be passing through, detailing her large retinue of carriages. Josephine had been returning to Paris from Aix-la-Chapelle where she had received an address from the Mayor, possibly following the proclamation of 18 May declaring Napoleon and Josephine as Emperor and Empress.
