Sir Winston Churchill, Boer War
c.1899 souvenir postcard with image showing the City of London Imperial Volunteers in action during the South African War. Signed "Winston S. Churchill", most likely at a later date. Sold together with Belgian colour picture postcard depicting prisoners arriving in Pretoria apparently showing "Lord Churchill at left in cap".

In 1899 Churchill had travelled to South Africa as a war correspondent with the 'Morning Post'. He was captured that year by the Boers and made a much celebrated escape from captivity.
