1797 (April 3) bestowal document signed to Cuthbert Collingwood announcing that "The King having been pleased to order Gold Medals to be struck in commemoration of the Victory obtained by His Majesty's Fleet under the Command of Admiral Sir John Jervis, over that of Spain in the Action of the 14th February cast off Cape St. Vincent" is to award Collingwood said medal and present him with it upon his next visit to St. James'. Signed "Spencer". Document written on single page of parchment and in good condition.

Collingwood was awarded a Naval 'Small Gold Medal' for Cape St. Vincent as Captain of HMS Excellent. 15 such medals were awarded. His medal is held in the National Maritime Museum.
