Jacobite Uprising
A group (10 items), with useful research notes, from or relating to personalities involved in the Jacobite Uprising including 1691 ALS with integral address panel from James Butler, 2nd Duke of Ormonde to John Piggott instructing him to "perfect & compleat the settlement of the militia" , 1714 ALS from Richard Minshull (Jacobite intriguer) to Edward Blount mentioning "we prisoners are as neglectful of the world or of our former Acquaintances as They have bine slighting of us", 1734 ALS from "Harland" to Col. Liddell, outer wrapper with '24 / mr' Bishop Mark and single line 'york', undated note signed "Ligonier" (either Jean Louis or Francis), 1757 lengthy ALS from Sir James Kinloch, 1761 ALS from William, 8th Earl of Home in Gibraltar, 1745 (Dec.) ALS from Sir Philip Musgrave, 6th Baronet referring to "The Highland Army being enclosed in Lancaster by a superior force from the Dukes and Marshall Wades Armies which if true will end the contest ... I send these as the shortest way per Kendal & Warrington but shall repeat the contents in another per London", 19thC. ALS from 8th and 9th Earls of Stair, related to Sir John Dalrymple, and 1870 ALS from Flora Wylde, granddaughter of Flora Macdonald, thanking her correspondent for the flattering manner in which they speak of her grandmother and making complaint that the proposed text for Macdonald's article take "an unwarrantable liberty by reflecting severely on Flora's descendants for neglecting to keep her grave in good order". Sold together with various commemorative postcards and covers. A fantastic group.
