Great Britain: Manchester Courier Limited, £1 second preference shares, 19[05], #756, large format, blue. The newspaper was founded by the Sowler family in 1825 as a staunch Tory publication. It came under the control of Alfred Harmsworth (Lord Northcliffe) in 1904, represented by this company, and he installed Arthur Stephenson as managing direct and he signs this certificate. Also signed by brewing magnate W. Slater Boddington, son of the founder, Henry Boddington. The paper however made losses every year and was closed in 1916. Large tear at right otherwise VF and scarce.
