1855 1d. carmine neatly cancelled by two part strikes of the 'cancelled' obliterator, close to large margins and fresh bright colour. Very rare being one of only six examples handstamped for the Hill family, this stamp being position 3. B.P.A. Certificate (1979). S.G. 14, £12,000

Note: In August 1861 the printers, Perkins, Bacon & Co., provided six examples of each stamp in their possession to Ormond Hill (eldest son of Rowland Hill) for members of his family.
