Auction: 20013 - The 'Lionheart' Collection of Great Britain and British Empire - Part XIII
Lot: 628

(x) Gambia
1886-93 Watermark Crown CA
6d. bronze-green complete sheet of fifteen, variety sloping label [R.1/1, 1,5], lightly mounted on two stamps only; a few diagonal gum bends not affecting fine appearance; also ½d. myrtle-green complete sheet of fifteen, unmounted mint. S.G. 21, 33, 33a; £875+

Note: In 'Gambia: Perforated Cameos' by J. F. Rose (West Africa Study Circle, 2011) it is noted that the sloping label reaches its maximum distortion on the bronze-green shade leading, it is thought, to the withdrawal of the plate and replacement before the fourth printing.
