Charles I (1625-49), Halfcrown, a contemporary forgery from false dies, struck in good silver, in style of Bristol, '1644', 10.21g, 3h, i.m. tun (on obv. only), •(i.m.) carolvs d g mag brli irei hi rex, crude horseman left, no ground line rev. i.m. lis (at 2h), • (m.m.) exvrgal • devs • dlsslpenlvr inimeci, relig: prot | le • arilipa in two lines, some is and ts replaced by inverted retrograde ls, the m re-entered, and final e reversed, three plumes above, date below (Brooker 1211 this coin; cf. N.2488; cf. S.3006), an endearingly crude coin with some light staining behind portrait, but mostly cabinet toned, thus a pleasing very fine, very rare, with traces of red wax in recesses

In the Brooker sylloge, the footnote records study of 'four other specimens from the same dies. They are all of qood quality metal and the correct weight, and may, despite their crude appearance be a genuine issue. Further research is being undertaken and publication eventually envisaged.'
