Charles I (1625-49), Shillings, contemporary forgeries from false dies, struck in base silver, in the style of Group C and D, Tower (3), as types 3.1 and 2a, 4.59g, 12h, m.m. plume, colon stops, reads et: hib: rex, rev. oval garnished shield, dividing cypher (cf. Sharp C2/D1; Brooker 1194, same dies; cf. S.2787), a small perforation to flan and softly struck, otherwise almost fine; another, as type 3a, 4.33g, 1h, m.m. tun, reads hi rex, no stops after d: g:, rev. oval-garnished shield of competent workmanship (cf. Sharp E2/3; cf. S.2791), fine, rare; lastly, 4.61g, 6h, m.m. tun, crude inflated portrait left, no inner circles (Brooker -; cf. S.2792[a]), some surface scuffs, otherwise fine, rare (3)

Lockett noted that he had encountered at least 20 examples of the mintmark plume imitation from the same pair of dies, suggesting a broad circulation. At time of publication of Brooker, four examples were to be found in the Baldwin forgery cabinet.
