Charles I in the name of Charles II (1625-49), Octagonal Shilling, February-24 March 1648/49, Civil War issues, Pontefract, 4.51g, 5h, carolvs : secvndvs : 1648, castle gateway, obs to left, cannon protruding to right, flag above on tower dividing p c, rev. crowned cr, dvm : spiro : spero (Brooker 1234 same dies; Hird 279 same dies; N.2648; S.3150), a pleasingly well-struck example of this much sought after obsidional coinage, almost extremely fine, rare thus, the first issue in the name of the future Charles II
