Cyril Edward Edington was born in Aldershot, Hampshire to a military family. His father was a Sergeant Major with the 10th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Cyril joined him in the Army on 7 March 1906 at the age of 13, joining the 4th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment with the rank of 'Boy'. He was transferred to the the 5th Lancers on 20 September 1907 as a trumpeter.
On 15 August 1914 he landed in France with his Regiment attatched to the 3rd Cavalry Division. This formation served on the Western Front throughout the war seeing action at Mons and Cambrai. Edlington served with them during that time until on 12 June 1916 he was commissioned and joined the Royal Sussex Regiment as a 2nd Lieutenant (London Gazette 15 July 1916, refers) with the Supply & Commissariat Corps.
After the war ended in 26 September 1919 he transferred to the Somaliland Camel Corps before finally transferring to the Kings African Rifles 19 June 1921. Retiring on 7 May 1924 he didn't remain for long in the Britain emigrating to Australia in 1926. He worked in the Munitions Factories in Western Australia died in Perth in 1949; sold together with copied service record and other details. Further entitled to War and Victory Medals & Africa General Service Medal, clasp 'Somaliland 1920'.
